With only two days remaining in the 2016 legislative session, the Legislature is poised to take a final vote on the budget by Friday.

Just a 1 percent increase in this year’s education budget is NOT “historic”. If the Legislature really wants to be “historic”, they would provide our districts, schools and teachers the adequate funding needed to provide the services necessary for our children to be successful in public schools. Otherwise, the Legislature is misleading the public and setting our students up for failure.

Offering $71 more per student is a start, but doesn’t even come close to the funding necessary to meet the needs of our schools, parents, and teachers.

Worst of all, the Senate slipped in the discriminatory “Best and Brightest” bonus scheme… without even taking a full vote! That is sneaky, unfair and insulting to the public.
